Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Recordal collects, why, and who else handles it. Recordal is operated by Droot Inc (“we”, “us”). You can reach us any time at hello@recordal.app.
Recordal is a service that emails you a daily digest of new interviews, talks and public appearances by the public figures you choose to follow.
What we collect, and why
We keep only what the service needs to work:
- Your email address — to create your account and to send you the daily digest.
- Your display name — shown on your account. It comes from Google if you sign in that way, or from what you type when you sign up.
- Your Google account details, only if you use “Sign in with Google” — your name, profile photo and a Google account identifier, which Google passes to us to sign you in.
- Who you follow.
- Your digest settings — whether the daily email is on, the hour you want it, and your time zone.
- A record of the emails we’ve sent you — which day, which items were included, whether delivery succeeded, and the message identifier our email provider returns.
- “Track someone” requests — the name and link you submit when you ask us to start following someone new.
- Feedback you send us — the message you type in the feedback box, and your email address if you choose to include one, so we can reply.
- A record of your agreement to these terms — which version you accepted, and when.
- Sign-in times — kept by our sign-in provider.
We do not store a password: you sign in with a link we email you, or with Google.
How we use it
We use your information to run your account, send you the digest you asked for, respond when you contact us, understand how Recordal is used so we can fix what’s confusing, and keep the service working and secure. We do not sell your data, show you ads, or build advertising profiles about you.
Cookies and tracking
Recordal uses only the essential cookies needed to keep you signed in. We also use privacy-preserving website analytics, so we can see things like how many people visit Recordal and which pages and features get used, and fix what’s confusing. This analytics does not use a cookie and does not store anything on your device — it works by hashing your IP address and browser type together with the date, so a visit can be grouped with other visits from roughly the same place and day without identifying who you are, or linking your visits together across days or devices. There are still no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking, and we do not track whether you open or click the digest email. Because we set no non-essential cookies, there is no cookie-consent banner.
Who else handles your data
We rely on a small number of service providers to run Recordal:
- Supabase — our database and sign-in provider. It stores the information above and manages your account. United States.
- Resend — sends your sign-in link and your daily digest email; it receives your email address. United States.
- Vercel — hosts the website. United States.
- Google — only if you choose “Sign in with Google”, to confirm your identity.
- Zoho — hosts our own @recordal.app mailboxes, such as hello@recordal.app.
- PostHog — our website analytics tool, described above. It never receives your name or email; only which pages are visited, grouped by day and browser type, with no cookie. United States.
The search service we use to find public appearances receives only the public figure’s name we are searching for — never any of your information.
Recordal also uses YouTube API Services to check public facts about YouTube videos we consider featuring — such as a video’s publish date and channel. These checks are about public videos, never about you, and none of your information is sent to YouTube. Google’s handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Where your data is held
Your data is stored and processed in the United States. If you are outside the US — including in the EU or UK — your data is transferred to and processed in the US.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account we remove it, as described next.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time from your account page. Doing so removes your profile, everyone you follow, your settings and your email history from our live systems immediately. Residual copies in our providers’ backups or delivery logs age out within their retention windows (up to about seven days).
We don’t yet have an automated data export. If you’d like a copy of your data, email hello@recordal.app and we’ll provide it.
Your rights and choices
You can turn the daily email off at any time from your account, and every digest has a one-click unsubscribe link. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data by emailing hello@recordal.app.
Depending on where you live — for example in the EU or UK — you may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, receive a portable copy of your data, and complain to your data-protection authority, among other rights under applicable law.
Children
Recordal is not directed at children. You must be at least 13, or the minimum digital-consent age in your country (which is as high as 16 in parts of the EU and EEA), to use it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Recordal changes. If we make a material change we’ll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, ask you to agree again.
